Standing tall in the background is the iconic coal stack of LG&E's Cane Run Generating Plant as construction continues on the gas plant that will replace it. The once award-winning facility that pioneered sulphur dioxide removal with the use of "scrubbers"--enough to prompt a visit from President Carter in July 1979--is now considered outdated and far less eco-friendly.
